Now fight mosquitoes the herbal way – with tulsi, cowdung powder concoction!

herbal mosquito repellent 9Here is a piece of good news for those plagued by dengue and chikungunya and specially the environmentalists. Among the growing concern for the disease’s spread and the effects of the frequent spraying of anti-mosquito chemicals, two school girls in a remote Assam town of India have come up with a herbal concoction or ‘herbal mosquito-repellent’ – reportedly more effective in driving away mosquitoes than all those coils, mats and liquidizers put together.

Decided to work on a mosquito-repellent without ‘side-effects’ on humans or the environment, the two sisters tried mixing and matching an assortment of leaves and natural substances for a couple of months till they hit not he perfect combination.

They have used tulsi and cowdung powder as two of the ingredients – rest of which they have kept a secret. But, they claim the repellent to be natural and eco-friendly.

They have sun-dried the gooey mixture in the shape of chalk sticks. When lighted, it emits a pungent smoke that keeps mosquitoes a t bay.

Locals who tried the ‘sisters’ formula’ claimed it to be effective and less nauseating than chemical repellents.
