Eco Factor: Low-emission cars powered by biofuel made using waste paper.
For this first time in the history of U.S., a vehicle powered by government wastepaper and waste cardboard was driven on the streets of Washington D.C. The technology has been developed by Novozymes and Fiberight.
The companies have partnered to produce a biofuel cocktail made using government wastepaper. In addition to wastepaper, the cars that include a Chevy HHR and a Ford F-150 can also be powered using energy crops, agricultural residue and other types of waste as well.
While it might seem to be a neat idea, wastepaper can in a better way be recycled as paper itself to reduce the number of trees being chopped for new paper. Moreover, the fuel is also E85, which does reduce the dependence of fossil fuels, but won’t eliminate emissions.
