Nissan’s Pivo 2: Robotic green magic on wheels from Disneyland!

So fine, this is not actually from Disneyland, but it could be considering the way it is designed and the fact that the Pivo is a car that should be in the world of cartoons and not in the real world. This is not to say that I don’t like the car; I actually love the Pivo for its fine little concept. I just feel that it is so happy-go-lucky in its look that it almost seems out of place in the real world. To add to all that, it is an electric vehicle meaning zero-emissions. The whole thing is a bundle of joy for both you and the planet.

Now Nissan go a step further with the Nissan’s futuristic Pivo 2, a “robot assisted” car that lets you drive backwards and even sideways will hit the road in Portugal in 2011. Sideways driving ability and robotic car controls aren’t the only futuristic feature on the Pivo 2, the cars are also equipped with “green” electric engines. This makes the car a perfect fit for a future that would hopefully see cars that are only emission-free.

Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates announced on Wednesday that Portugal will begin building a national network of electric car charging centers so that Nissan and Renault can start selling the Pivo 2 there in two and-a-half years. It becomes available worldwide in 2012. The Pivo 2 has four engines, pivoting wheels, and a rotating cabin so you can face front while driving in multiple directions. This unique design helps people to avoid tight parallel parking jobs forever. After the jump, see footage of some sideways Pivo 2 parking action. The Pivo 2 is truly green magic!
