Eco Factor: Sustainable architecture made from prefabricated timber panels.
NEX Architecture has unveiled the designs of a new station complex for the City of Elmshorn, Germany that comprises a new train and bus station and an integrated car parking. The multipurpose community resource center expresses the concept of a sustainable town and a new European Urbanity.
The proposed station integrates infrastructure, public space and natural landscape with the use of a lightweight timber deck that can also serve as a new city park. The new space created by the roof of the station reconnects primary urban circulation routes and introduces new greenery for the citizens. The new station also provides space for a multipurpose sports hall, outdoor running track, cinema and restaurants.
The sustainable roof structure is elevated by large prefabricated timber paneled piers that also serve as bio-containers to populate the rooftop park with trees and other plantations. The soil and water management systems will also be contained within these piers.
