New nano-structured material to repel pests, sweeten air

examining the polymer samples

Nano-particle-based materials have always of amazing use. And, when it comes to hel the environment keep clean and hyegenic, it is always a hit. Here is another such innovation by a chemist at Washington University in St. Louis. She has developed a remarkable nano-structured material.

The new material is capable of repelling pests, sweeten the air. And to add to this, it might even be used as a timed drug delivery system some day!

Explaining the material, Wooley said,

We looked at the roughness and complexity of the surface and thought that the surface might provide interesting entrance and exit ports for small molecule guests… So, our material would be a host that would act like a sponge, because we have this complex subsurface morphology, and we thought of it as being domains that might be like holes in sponges and other domains that might be like sponge material.
