New Biofuel Awaiting Jets

If biofuels are accepted as an effective alternative for the ground vehicles, why not for the aircrafts? A new biofuel for jet engine could be in the works. A process that converts soybean or canola oil into aviation turbine fuel is being worked on by researchers in North Dakota.

The biofuel is now almost ready for an Air Force test. The alternative fuel is said to run colder and cheaper than conventional jet fuel. And to add to its credit, the biofuel is more environmentally friendly, as the Grand Forks Herald reported. The researchers claimed to have found a way to solve a problem with the fuel’s tendency to “gel” at low temperatures, and that it is now working at temperatures of 75 below zero (Fahrenheit)! Thanks, Groovy Green and AV Web for the information.
