Eco Factor: Electric car powered by a quiet, emission-free electric drive offers a range of over 124 miles.
After its attempt to go green with the B-Class F-CELL fuel-cell car, Mercedes-Benz adds yet another green version to its name. The German automobile manufacturer plans to produce 500 battery-powered “E-Cell” versions of its small A-Class. Powered by a quiet, emission-free electric drive, the compact five-seater offers a range of more than 124 miles.
The A-Class E-CEL is a dynamic performer that takes just 5.5 seconds to accelerate from 0-37mph, thanks to the two high-performance lithium-ion batteries. It flaunts a peak output of 95hp and a high torque of 214 lb-ft. This family electric car targeting the urbanites is the world’s first vehicle in its class to be fitted with an intelligent charging management system based on “SmartCharge Communication”.
With generous interior space and luggage compartment, this green car promises maximum versatility. It will be produced at the Mercedes Rastatt plant, near Stuttgart, Germany from autumn 2010. The A-Class E-CEL awaits its grand unveiling at the Paris auto show in October.
