With world taking a green path towards a future that will hopefully be devoid of everything that is making the planet bleed today the automobile industry is taking a giant and significant step towards going green. Unlike many other sectors there is nothing pretentious about this and the green technology is truly reaching everyone who intends to adopt it when it comes to today’s vehicles. The big boys are also going green and it is understandable with ever soaring oil prices and the new environmental norms. ‘Mantis’ is a brilliant design that uses the existing technology in Range Extended Vehicles (REV) to run on its own energy!
Designed by Alberto Gajardo Innocenti, the Mantis is a fine combination of a beautiful form and efficient function. The bike is named Mantis as it derives its aerodynamic inspiration for the creature, or so it appears. Mantis is powered by an electric engine that charges itself up each time your vehicle runs. It simply converts the kinetic energy of your wheels not just in to movement that is apparent but also stores a part of it as energy. While it will need initial charge, that will be pretty minimal and only to set the cycle rolling.
The design relies on light and compact features that allow it to maximize energy production and give it a vibrant dynamic feel. The bike is a wonderful blueprint for future green bikes which probably can take a similar ‘green approach’ towards energy production as in the design of Alberto. Modern technology coupled with outstanding creativity of Alberto Gajardo has produced a beautiful green bike indeed. Let’s pray that there more bikes like Mantis!
