Unpackaged Stores – Shopping goes Ecofriendly!

unpackaged1

Excess packaging is the curse of food shopping. It is time to go “green” the whole way and “Unpackaged” shows us how. This is a London based store which sells affordable organic and fair trade dry foods, and encourages customers to use their own containers to package the products they buy.

The store is convenient, hygienic and well stacked. Either you com with your own container or buy a handy reusable one at the store. When you run out of the product , you come back for a refill.

This store is a good idea because it saves the packaging costs and avoids usage of packaging material which is harmful to the environment. Catherine Conway’s store buys in bulk from fair trade companies, gives preference to suppliers who are cooperatives or social enterprises, and does packaging swaps with smaller suppliers to minimize unnecessary waste.

Consumers don’t really need packaging and labeling for all products; it is just that they have got used to it being there. Let’s hope that Unpackaged either becomes a chain or inspires other stores to adopt the same way of functioning.
