Local craftsmen recycle fallen hardwood lumber to sustainable furniture

for new home construction

Chicago area craftsmen are ‘going green’ by transforming the high-quality hardwoods into beautiful furniture, given the trees a second life, which otherwise would be turned into mulch or firewood. These oak trees can also be used for flooring, paneling, beams, doors, mantel pieces.

Bruce Horigan of Horigan Urban Forest Products collects and recycles the trees that have fallen naturally or have to be taken out for new home construction. The hardwood lumber furniture are sustainable for a long time too — 100, another 50 or 200 years!

Bruce and his wife Erika mill the lumber in Glencoe, keeping them alive all over Chicago. Thanks to both of you for being a part of the environmental activist in your own possible bits, and adding to the country’s economy.
