Lextran unveils electric hybrid buses to reduce emissions

LextranAs the world is gearing up to ‘go green’ in almost every arena of life, the introduction of the ‘Green bus’ by Lextran is a positive step in that direction. It contributes towards a clean environment by reducing the emission of greenhouse gases. Lextran recently showcased seven energy-efficient buses, out of which two run on hybrid technology and other five are powered by conventional diesel engines.
LextranThe hybrid buses are 35 feet long and the diesel buses are 29 feet long. Hybrids buses are the ones that run both on electricity and conventional fuel. These buses run for 17 hours at a stretch and the battery gets recharged on its own when the brakes are applied. The cost of manufacturing a hybrid bus is quite high nonetheless it is worth its while to manufacture hybrids for cleaner environment.
Jill Barnett, spokeswoman for Lexington’s public transportation agency, said the new buses were part of LexTran’s efforts to “go green”. She further added “As hybrid technology becomes more advanced, hopefully it will be more affordable. We’ve taken a progressive step with the purchase of additional hybrid technology and hope people see our new look as progressive also.”

Companies and governments are making efforts to reduce the toxic gases emitted by vehicles. Citizens should make sure the efforts should not go waste. Adhering to simple life style changes would ensure reduced poisonous emissions into the atmosphere. Moreover, apart from being cost effective, using public transport in the form of buses and trains can help reduce the carbon footprint of all urban commuters.
