One of the major problems that urban cities face is the traffic. Sometimes the number of cars on the road is just too high & it makes no sense that a single family has 4-5 cars running on the road all at same time. While someone’s economic status might allow them to maintain a while collection of cars, running all of them at a time, with each member using a single car does not help the traffic or environment. Then, there is the problem of driving to a certain point, parking your car & taking maybe the subway from that point.
To solve all these problems we have the City Car, being developed by Smart Cities group at the MIT media lab. Now MIT has been an institute that has always been at the fore-front of technology & they have taken a wonderful concept of sharing transportation to a further level. The company launches the City Cay which looks very stylish, cool & extremely compact. These cars will be strategically located at various busy centers of each city. A user can pick them up, use them & pay for them. They would be dropped at the destination of the user, from where another user might want to board them. This is not a technology to replace the cabs, but it surely is much better. It gives you your own car for your journey.
With the streets of the world getting busier by each minute, such an innovation is really cool. It reduces the usage of fossil fuels & the car itself runs on clean electric energy. When parked, it can be recharged in bundles of 6. A bundle of 6 of these City Cars would take up only 1 parking spot! Now that is really a bonus. The car looks all ready to bring in a much needed environmental revolution on urban roads. It is expected to hit the roads by April 2008.
