With the considerable development in technology, there is also consistent rise in the death rates of wild life. This shocking discovery is found in the fields of US wind energy. In United States, Almont Pass Wind Resource Area is one of the oldest wind farms. It is also one of the most concentrated across the world.
This field is approximately a 4-by-6 mile land featuring 5200 turbines which are being run by dozens of companies. Year 1981 marked the installation of its first rotors, which was prompted by federal tax. At that time, people were not well aware about its appropriate working and usage. Moreover, they had not idea about its impact on the wildlife, especially birds.
In North America, Altamont Pass became one of the deadliest wind farms, as it killed about 4700 birds, along with 1300 raptors. Golden eagles are one of the rarest species, were also among the killed.
But, here is some good news for you! With the introduction of high-powered turbines flood farms, there is considerable reduction in the killings of birds. But this is just one farm, but the green ambassadors should think about the consequences of wild turbines before thinking about a completely wind powered world, because if they do so without any improvements of wind technology then they surely are keeping the wild life at stake.
