If students are the reflection of a country’s future then one thing can be ensured that Ukraine has a bright and environmentally friendly future. A bunch of students from Kharkov University, Ukraine, have created an ecofriendly car which can travel as much as 575 kilometers in one liter of gasoline. What is more incredible is the fact that the students participated in Europe’s Shell Eco Marathon in Germany, held annually.
This amazing feat has been successfully accomplished by Alexander Chernyshov and Dmitry Eksperiandon – two bright students of Kharkov National University. The students took part in the Marathon for two consecutive years on the same fuel efficient car. In the first year the car’s mileage was 570 kilometers per liter and in the next year it rose to 575 kilometers per liter. The efficient fuel used in the car is gasoline.
The car is rechristened as ‘Hadi TTX – 34’ and is a small built car with 3 meter length, 1 meter width, .7 meter height and 43 kilograms of weight. Another eye catching aspect of the car is its wheels. The wheels of the car are actually bicycle wheels and have been fitted well for the purpose. Besides, there is a water bottle also in the cockpit for the driver to quench thirst. The engine management is also quite different. It is carried out with the help of a joystick, taken from a game console and improvised according to the needs of the car.
What is more surprising about the car is the fact that it has been created with lots of scrap material and an engine of a Honda lawnmower. There are few dos and donts before you sit in the car for a ride. For the starters, one has to weigh at least 50 pounds. If the driver weighs less then the missing pounds need to be ‘put on’ the car.
The rules and regulations for sitting in the car are not easy though. The person has to be a student of the Kharkov university, should have a driving license and must be well trained before sitting in the car. All these regulations made it a bit tough to find a suitable candidate for the car with right weight and hence Alexander had to go immediately on a diet before the event in order to loose some weight so that he could fit in the cockpit.
