Being in a place where you come across recycled and reused material on a daily basis, you soon get accustomed to stuff that is being crafted out of junk. But when something comes about that really impresses you despite the familiarity that has bred content then it surely deserves a very special mention. That is truly the case in regards to this Junkture Table, which is literally crafted in to a masterpiece from nothing beyond trash.
Here is a table that is as good as any and if it was large enough then probably would be befitting for King Arthur and his brave knights. The design and construction of this table is so simple and elegant that you are amazed by how beautiful something so simple can truly look. The table with its black rim and metal centerpiece look stunning indeed and would easily take its place in any home. Its centerpiece is a magnesium wheel rim recovered from a New York City junkyard, and surrounding it is black glass, which gives the table a floating sensation and casts unique shadows beneath it.
Designed by Beth Fuller, it has been made from salvaged trash which should remind all of us how much we waste on a daily basis. Apart from spreading the principle of recycling and reuse, it shows what the mind of a thinking designer and a true creator can do with something simple and deemed useless. Fuller says that the true challenge of a designer is in telling his listeners and the world what goes in to the landfill and what stays out of it. In other words, redefining our perception of trash is his true motive and in this case he truly has managed to do that.
