Eco factor: Beautiful eco house carved into a huge boulder.
The very thought of living in a stone house like our ancestors did once, always runs a shiver of excitement down my spine. Offering a house to experience both the good old times and modern amenities is W. Garett Carlson. The landscape architect has designed a 1700sqf residence that flaunts a beautiful, huge boulder, which covers the entire residence from the front.
Erected over 2.5 acres in Joshua Tree, California, the Joshua Tree Boulder House features a boulder on one side that provides shade from the late day heat and slowly transforms into actual home, which is constructed of metal, wood, concrete and glass. Creating a breath-taking backdrop for the house is a landscaped roof and patio.
Adding to the aesthetics are a fire pit and water feature, which are set within boulders. The custom-made floor-to-ceiling pocket stands some 10 feet high open to create a 40-foot-wide expanse that connects the living area to the landscape. While relaxing inside this amazing house, you can enjoy the mesmerizing view outside.
