The Indian jatropha wit all its potential was playing low. And it is with the oil prices surging, it suddenly is experiencing a renaissance of sorts. It is a potential source for fuel for trucks and power stations, which went unrecognized all these years.
39.2 million hectares (98 million acres) of land are identified by the government in India, where jatropha can be grown in abundance. And if grown and it will hopefully be able to replace 20 percent of diesel consumption in five years.
R.K. Malhotra, who oversees the Indian Oil Corp.’s research center that is running tests on the oil said, We have found that we can produce biodiesel from it. If we can keep the price down, the future looks bright.
