Whenever we think about high speed railways, China and Japan are the two countries that come to our mind as both have always been trying to surmount each other. This time Japan plans to introduce the world’s fastest train by the year 2027, a next-generation maglev built at a cost of 64 billion dollars.
“Maglev,” or magnetically levitated trains travel above ground through an electromagnetic pull and powerful magnets elevate the train above the track, cutting down friction. The only maglev train now in commercial operation is in Shanghai. The world’s fastest train using conventional railway technology is currently France’s TGV, which runs at 320 kph.
The speedy train will travel between Tokyo and Nagoya on a 178 miles rail extension line, at a speed of 310 miles per hour, cutting down the hour and half long journey by 40 minutes, while the current line runs at about 167 miles per hour.
