ITB uses recycled materials to create first solar vehicle

Pahlawan One

With the concern to go green, INSTITUT Teknologi Brunei (ITB) has developed its first solar vehicle. Students and the staff of the Electrical and Electronics along with the Mechanical Engineering department, joined hands together to create this environmentally friendly vehicle called ‘Pahlawan One’ meaning ‘first vehicle’.

As a prototype, it took about 5 months for completion. The advantage of this vehicle is that it can store the excess energy in the batteries which can be further utilized on a non-sunny day. The vehicle is in aerodynamic shape which helps to save energy minimizing wind friction.
Pahlawan One
Currently, “Pahlawan One” can travel on its battery for approximately 4 hours covering a distance of 10km. It is also projected that to further improve the design and the performance of the vehicle, its next version “Pahalwan two” may be introduced. We can also expect the same to be more cost-effective. Like any other project, “Pahlawan One” also had some limitations. One most important was funding, however the positive spirit of the team. With the launch of the first solar-powered car, Brunei has not only demonstrated their responsibility towards the earth but also proved that team work is the way to go green.
