India’s Kurubarahalli Village Defeat Water And Toilet Problems

kuruballi

Life before rainwater harvesting was tough for the people of Kurubarahalli. Women had to fetch water four kms away and open air toilets were a constant embarrassment. So tired were the women folks that they resolved to change the face of their village.

To tackle their water problem they constructed tanks which serve as rainwater harvesting units with a multi purpose utility like storage age tank for rain, borewell and tank water.

Not satisfied with that they went ahead and built eco-friendly toilets that turns urine into instant fertilizers and faeces too after composting it for a year.

It is especially commendable as it is obvious that they had struggled against numerous odds to achieve this. The scheme is being implemented in neighbouring villages now.
