Honda will display its all-new concept electric vehicle at Geneva International Motor Show 2011 alongside a platform for mid size plug-in hybrid vehicles. The EV will be a familiar looking five-seat hatchback. By looking at it, we can well imagine what the upcoming 2012 electric Jazz EV will be like.

Inspired by the last year’s Jazz EV concept, the EV-N electric vehicle concept, the Odyssey-inspired Skydeck Hybrid concept and the P-Nut concept, the novel concept EV is estimated to achieve an approximate 100-mile range per charge. The system continuously moves through three different modes to maximize driving efficiency, these being all-electric, petrol-electric and an engine direct-drive mode.

Honda’s three-mode electric drive system powers the vehicle. The plug-in hybrid utilizes regenerative braking to charge the battery. The vehicle will have several interactive coaching systems to assist the driver in maximizing battery range. “The Honda EV Concept hints strongly at the direction and styling for Honda’s upcoming production battery electric vehicle, the Fit EV, which will be introduced to the U.S. and Japan in 2012,” says Honda. The Japanese automaker abides by the company line that plug in vehicles are a “near future technology.”

A new two-motor plug-in hybrid drivetrain, which offers three driving modes: all-electric, petrol-electric and petrol-only, will also be unveiled at the Motor show on March 1 in Geneva along with Honda’s charging system.
