We had previously told you about the Sikat and Eolian, but now it is time for the all new ‘Havyn’ solar car. Conceived by a team of researchers at Qazvin University, this adamantly ‘green’ contraption is touted to spurt to a top speed of 130 km per hour. The car is showcased at the the RoboCup IranOpen 2011 competitions in Tehran.
It took the team around 1.5 years to give form to the design, and it was well worth the wait. The 5 meters long car is made of advanced carbon fiber and fiberglass mold and surprisingly weighs only around 160 kg. It is 2 meters wide and 2.96 meters tall and has two wheels both at the front and back. With a 7.5 horsepower engine, the car is expected to pack a ‘punch’ in racing conditions.
Additionally an array of silicon solar panels, measuring 6 square meters, is installed on top of the car and lithium-ion batteries are used to store their charge. And speaking of electricity, it might be co-incidental, but Qazvin has one of the largest power plants feeding electricity into Iran’s national power grid, which provides 7 percent of Iran’s electrical power.
