Eco Factor: Luxuriously green yacht uses diesel-electric propulsion system.
Kingship Marine, re-instills the belief that going green doesn’t mean to compromise on luxury, style and comfort. The Chinese yacht builder will commence the construction of an eco-friendly 45m motor yacht later this year. The world’s first under-50m yacht built to Royal Institution of Naval Architects’ (RINA) Green Plus standards is called the “Green Voyager”.
Designed by Italian firm Axis Designs, the yacht comes loaded with green features like heat reflecting glass, high efficiency insulation, heat recovery, heat pump calorifiers, gas treatment, ultra efficient props, bio lubes, and fuels environmental operations manuals. The designers have incorporated the Siemens SiShip Eco-Prop system to lower energy consumption and stay clean and compact.
Further Siemens even offers a combination of diesel-electric propulsion system and direct diesel drives. With the Eco-Prop system, an intelligent power management system (PMS) regulates the power supply fully automatically. The PMS system, allows the crew to vary the speed of the diesel motor so that it always runs at maximum efficiency. The Green Voyager still under the design phase and will have to wait until the end of 2010 to see the first step towards its construction.
