There has been an enormous growth in the number of green buildings that are taking shape and the vast majority of reconstruction projects that wish to revamp existing structures in to eco-friendly hubs. It seems that both the construction industry and the automobile industry have taken keen interest and are riding the ‘planet friendly’ wave a lot better than anyone else. Dubai is already pretty famous for being the sand box for architects with eco-friendly designs and Singapore is rapidly gaining the same repute.
The new building concept designed by Zaha Hadid Architects in Farrer Road in Singapore would be an architectural wonder if one looks at the designs. The overall design wishes to communicate the florid vegetation in the Singapore’s climate. The overall project is organized into 7 towers growing from sunken private gardens in the landscape to the sky above. This is another attempt by Singapore to rope in more green structures and to present to tourists and residents a city view which is more spectacular and pleasant that it already is.
The lower floors kink in to highlight the point where buildings meet the ground, enabling yet a greater open area and the creation of highly private gardens which are quite unique given the scale and density of the development. The petals are expressed in three dimensions thanks to vertical cuts which give definition to the building’s façades and, at the same time, allow for cross ventilation of most of the flats. This would save plenty of power too. So we have another new project to look forward to as one wonders how many more such spectacular projects will come up worldwide very soon!
