Green architecture: A home powered by Spinach!

Is it just me or the moment someone says Spinach, your mind very naturally tends to go back in time and think of Popeye and his heroics with his faithful companion- Spinach. I suppose I speak for most of us when I say that we hate to eat it, but love to watch it. Anyway, this has absolutely nothing to do cartoons. In fact, do not let my fiddling around detract you from this nice and wonderful new green home. It is green very literally and offers an eco-friendly lifestyle that is both a combination of both wonderful modern architecture and proximity to nature.

The design is such a smooth amalgamation of both the stylish and the healthy lifestyles that it compels you to pause and take a look. It also surely forces you to admire the skill and the intent of the designer who came up with this bright idea. This new concept home is by Cradle 2 Cradle. It has a photosynthetic, phototropic spinach skin surface and a vegetated roof system that filters storm water in. It is an almost complete green home and allows one to not just live close to nature but also save some cash. Let us just say that ‘Green saves Green’!

The house sports a vertical core with super-conductive photosynthetic plasma that generates 200percent more voltage than ordinary solar cells. This obviously generates plenty of energy and to add to that the spinach protein shell of the house grows over time, generating enough electricity to power the neighbors’ homes, too. I’m not so sure I would be that generous to share power with my pestering neighbors, but if it is Jennifer Aniston that I live beside; then I’m willing to share a lot more.

The vegetated roof collects storm water and filters it. Non-potable water goes to a septic tank below the home, and then feeds the garden. The soy-foam wall panels keep heat in and the ventilation tower regulates the temperature. Even the walls of this house can be easily moved around to create more space when required. The house indeed seems to be wonderful step forward towards green living. One hopes that designing like this catches up with firms and people alike. Once they become common place and the price tags come down a bit, there might be nothing to stop them from replacing the conventional idea of shelter.
