Taking a new spin on greener means of personal transport, an Argentina-based designer has come up with a two-wheeled balancing vehicle called Tilto. The name is claimed to be inspired from the vehicles’ easy going two step mechanism of tilting and going ahead to swerve the curves and scale all terrains. The completely pollution free vehicle can take care of all forms of short distance travels that are sometimes difficult to accomplish by foot alone. Be it a walk around the mall, a daily trip to the market or travelling to the office, the Tilto can manage all with tireless progress.
The issue of personal mobility has long been a major point of interest among individuals. The reasons are that unlike public transport system, it need not be confined to scheduled routes and second the expensive car drive for small distance travel is a big blemish for environmentally conscious individuals. It’s not only uses more space and resources but also eats away ecological advancements. Sensitive to such market demands many efforts have however been initiated towards greener mode of personal transport.
The interests however waned with pricey deliverance from big giant auto manufacturers or faulty functionality of par-time technical designers. And inspired by these flaws, the techno savvy ones across the globe, ventured with various adaptations, of what could be the possible answer to private mobility. In a similar exploration to perfection, Argentina based hobbyist Marcelo Fornaso has designed the Tilto.
While on a trip to Paris Fornaso chanced to travel around in a Segway and noticed that the main fault of the vehicle lies in swerving corners in inclined terrains. The driver in such cases, he noted, is forced to lean forward closer to the cart to remain safe and also sometimes a sudden stop of the vehicle tends to push the occupant right off the vehicle, posing a major issue of threat while travelling busy roads. He studied these aspects carefully and with a profound inspiration of an inverted pendulum designed, this green vehicle that completely runs on electric motor.
He designed the Tilto as an automatic bi-directional balancing vehicle, that combines the efforts of complementary filters to blend functionality of enhanced accelerators to gyroscope and correct its mechanical rigidity. It ensures better tilting angles for a safe drive. The Tilto works without assistance of any handle bars and is just fitted as a mount board for the individual to sit on and pair of “tilt wheels” to maneuver the drive ahead with complete safety and offer comfort on all turns, swerves and terrains. The Tilto drives on battery charge with a maximum speed of 20 kmph, over a distance range of about 15km, keeping the drive pollution free and hence guilt free. It’s a new green transportation treat to cut down on “greenhouse emissions” and encourage a shift from carbon-hungry modes of transport to a more ecologically friendly lifestyle.
