Organic not synonymous to eco friendly: Study

organic food
Good intentions in themselves are not enough to achieve the desired results every time. So when you decide to go organic as your bit for the planet, it is not necessarily working out in the favor of earth. And while you feel that buying organic food is a way to protect both the health and the environment from the harmful fertilizers and pesticides. Some scientists believe you cannot be farther from the truth. They say that buying organic means you are ruining the environment. These scientists have stated that notwithstanding their ecofriendly image, some organic farmers create greater pollution and contribute more to global warming than conventional farmers who use pesticides and fertilizers. They have came to this conclusion following a study that showed organic food such as milk, chicken and tomatoes produce more greenhouse gases and create more soil and water damage and also require more land. This means that organic farming is not always energy efficient. These factors hold no importance when we consider other benefits of organic farming like its positive influence on soil condition and animal welfare. Via: Environmental Graffiti
