Eco Factor: Chevrolet Volt batteries packs to be reused after their vehicular lifetime ends.

General Motors has collaborated with power grid supplier ABB Group to find cost-effective and creative ways to reuse the Chevrolet Volt batteries packs after their vehicular lifetime comes to an end. Both the companies will carry out research to look for different ways the Volt batteries can help in providing green energy efficiently.

The new partnership will help in utilizing the energy storage capacity of the batteries to store energy created by wind and solar power generators. The stored energy could be used whenever the need arises. They could also be as power supplies for entire communities, housing electricity that can be used during power outages.

In addition, the batteries could be used by utilities to store electricity generated during off-peak times and use it during higher-peak periods. Another possible use could be to store off-peak, less expensive electricity that businesses can use during peak demand, proving to be cost saving.
