Christmas and New Year are knocking on the door and the festive season is actually already here. So what does it mean? Well, shopping of course. All of us do shop extensively and some do it till they run their own wallet and those of others around them dry. But whenever we do shop, it means that you bring a new shiny little toy into your household and that means the old one is out. The glitz of the new accessory is sure to out shine that of your old, used one. (Otherwise, why in the world would you buy it?)
But one need not always throw away the old device, which only adds to the pile of waste and surely helps none. Actually some of us are quite attached to our old devices. In my case, I can never throw away my old cell ‘Rocky’ (Yes, I named it. Don’t look at me like that). So what do we do to make sure that the old get a new lease of life? Well, you could use few smart solutions to revamp them in to something new.
You can convert your old Xbox in to a windows media center by installing the open source Xbox Media Center (XBMC). It stops you from throwing it away and obviously save money when it comes to something new. You can play music, watch videos and surely do a lot more stuff that I’m unaware of. (Let’s face it, I suck at handling software). You can revive even your old iPod to make sure you are not tempted to buy the crappie iPhone of Apple (It is not worth it).
Similarly, you can use your old PC for various other purposes by installing software that helps revitalize it. All you need to do is look around to make sure you get the right ideas. While something new will give you a few exciting days and the shiny glitter; the old gives you reliability and of course familiarity. If you are not too keen on all this, then you can give it a retirement home by starting your own ‘Archives’. Yes, it is not the best solution, but hey it gives you memories you can’t ever buy.
