GE’s Noryl: Material that produces cheap hydrogen

on par with gasoline

Now you can produce hydrogen at a cost equal to gasoline. GE’s Global Research lab researchers in Niskayuna, NY, have developed a system for the production of the alternative fuel to oil. What interests the most is that this system can generate hydrogen at a fraction of the cost of its present production. And it would be ‘spell-bound’ a scenario, if could be available commercially in just a few years!

True, there is nothing new in the basic process – electrolysis. But, GE’s breakthrough comes from a proprietary material – Noryl. It a highly chemical and temperature-resistant plastic, which lowers the hydrogen production’s cost to hundreds of dollars per kilowatt! Informed by Bourgeois, this amazing material is developed by the GE labs.
