From Plastic bags to pulsating outfits!

dresses from recycled plastic bags

Plastic is probably the gravest possible demon to have ever haunted environment. Of course with each passing day, carbon emissions are trying their level best to take that crown. But it is not the problem with plastic that makes it so grave. As I must have ranted about this a million times before, it is just the lack of an alternative; rather a viable alternative for plastic. It has become so popular and easy to use in the commercial sector that a replacement is almost not in sight.

Plastic is cheap and easy to use and make. While this is an amazing combination to have in the daily world, the advantages of the material stop there. Once you are done with using plastic, everything from there on moves only in one direction- downhill. To dispose off of the material in an environmentally safe way is becoming a growing problem. Neither are we able to find land dumps good enough nor is there any other alternative. Or is that the case?

Cathy Kasdan has designed amazingly stylish and beautiful plastic bag dresses. These dresses that look both modern and also have a seemingly light touch of the oriental design are made from recycled plastic shopping bags. The wonderful part is that she didn’t purchase any materials to make the dresses, rather collecting bags at trips to the grocery store and bag donations from friends. This is not just an effort to save the planet but was also part of her thesis work in textiles. That is really heartening to know as it means young entrepreneurs are ready to look in environmentally friendly direction. This shows us probably how we can keep the plastic out of the land fill a little while longer and help replenish the planets depleting greenery.
