The FIFA World Cup may be over, but the obsession and affection for the game is such that nations have already battling it out for one that starts in 12 years. Qatar is bidding to host the World Cup in 2022, and getting the “Lusail Iconic Stadium” design at this point in time is certainly an added advantage. Located in a new development in the north of Doha, the stadium sports a saddle-shaped roof that appears to float above the concrete seating bowl with a retractable canopy that can fully open or close. Encircled by a reflective pool of water, spectators cross the “moat” to enter the building via six bridges. The spectators coming to see the tough, sweaty men battling it out in the field will be able to use new metro line and direct roads to reach the eco stadium. The other eight countries giving tough competition to Qatar for the bid are Australia, South Korea, the United States, England, Japan, Russia, Spain and Portugal, and Belgium and The Netherlands.
