It took me a while to actually figure this out, which on reading I realized was a campaign to attract natives’ attention towards the awful water conditions in the sea of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Activists from Greenpeace Mexico pulled out and installed a giant inflatable toilet on the Los Muertos beach to protest against the sewage discharge into the sea.
The sign engraved on the toilet reads ‘playas limpias ahora’ in Spanish – Clean Beaches Now in English. It’s the tourist season in the country and launching an awareness campaign now may perhaps be the right time.
