First solar-hydrogen house produces zero utility bill

Do long electricity bills haunt you when you switch on tat heavy-duty gadget at your home? Then take a tip from Mike Strizki, whose utility bill is zero! He has meticulously used his creative thoughts to make proper and the right use of renewable energy technologies.

He used solar panels, a hydrogen fuel cell, storage tanks and an electrolyzer to power his energy-efficient home, even without worrying about electricity on the cloudiest days.

Strizki’s 3,500 square foot house is located in central New Jersey on 12 acres. It has most of the amenities you’d generally see in any 21st century home – which includes a hot tub and big screen TV.

The renewable energy system used in his house also creates hydrogen in an electrolyzer, which is used to power his fuel-cell car — The New Jersey Genesis.

The excess electricity produced from the solar panels goes to an electrolyzer, which interestingly then breaks down a tank of water into — oxygen and hydrogen. The oxygen being released into the atmosphere, the hydrogen is stored in 10 1,000-gallon propane tanks. So, during a cloudy day, the hydrogen is piped to an air-conditioner-sized fuel cell to generate electricity.
