A reservoir of the size of a small city! And that too, a manmade one! Yes, engineers in Florida are planning to build one of the world’s largest manmade reservoirs, and will start building it next month. The main objective of the venture is to continue to restore natural water flow to the Everglades.
With about 25 square miles in area, the reservoir is scheduled to be completed in 2010. Guess the capacity of the reservoir – it will be holding 62 billion gallons of water! This is equivalent to what about 5.1 million residential swimming pools can hold. At its widest point, the reservoir will be seven miles across.
This ‘flagship’ project is part of the $10.5 billion federal-state partnership in the world’s largest wetland restoration effort.
