EU Bio-diesel output rose by 65 per cent in 2005: EBB

Output of bio-diesel in the European Union has risen to 3.2 million tones, which is a 65 percent rise in 2005. With this achievement, EU has become the largest producer of the green fuel in the world, the European Bio-diesel Board (EBB) informed on Wednesday.

In the 25-member bloc, the capacity is expected to rise to 6.07 million tonnes this year, according to a statement by Brussels-based EBB. Last year, the production in the United States reached 250,000 tonnes.

By far, Germany remained the top bio-diesel maker within the European Union. It had an output of 1.6 million tonnes last year, which is followed by France (492,000 tonnes) and Italy (396,000).

EBB said, Both in terms of bio-diesel production and capacities, the European Union continues to excel itself as the worldwide leader in bio-diesel production.
