Amidst soaring oil prices, with its record reaching high Tuesday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and auto parts supplier BorgWarner Inc. bid to find a solution. With the goal of reducing dependence on foreign oil, they announced a partnership for developing diesel technology.
Clean combustion systems is the focus of this partnership. This system attacks emissions right at their source – the combustion chamber of a vehicle. This plan meticulously avoids using treatments which are expensive as they are made after the toxic emissions leave that chamber.
It is for passenger vehicles, this technology will help diesel vehicles meet the EPA’s Tier 2 clean air standards. These standards are being phased in through 2009. It will also help meet standards for heavy-duty vehicles, which are supposed to go into effect in 2010, according to BorgWarner.
