The demands for alternative oil and concerns for the environment increasing worldwide, so is the need for commercial production of bio-diesel to meet it! The Diversa Corporation’s Purifine enzyme is capable of increasing the efficiency of oilseed processing for biodiesel production. But, it was awaiting its approval by the US Environmental Protection Agency of this non-food applications enzyme.
The Agency has finally approved the Purifine enzyme.
Though traditionally, there was no extensive use of enzymes in the vegetable oil refining process, Diversa’s this approach reduces the need for harsh chemicals. In addition, it also provides a novel method for removing oil phospholipids (degumming the oil). It also improves the quality and yield without demanding major changes to conventional processing conditions.
