Eco Factor: Floating City planned for victims of global warming induced rising sea levels.
Oculus had been declared one of the winners at Sea Change 2030 + competition for designing an innovative refuge called Embassy of Drowning Nations for people who lost their home to rising sea levels. Located in Fort Denison, Australia the embassy is basically planned as an inverted island meant to provide temporary housing. As water levels rise the inverted design of the island will cause it to sink deeper into the harbor, while at the same time exposing new land in the center of the mini city.
For Oculus the newly exposed land will not heal the loss but also provide them a new space which they can call their own. The people of the island will also house a Climate Change Institute and Research Center while its’ residents will have the opportunity to join the Australian society and the island.
