Eco Factor: Sustainable building conserves energy with a sunshield system.
Beijing-based design and architecture firm Elevation Workshop have proposed a sustainable building for the Rizhao Urban Planning Museum in China that is designed to conserve energy by reducing solar heat gain. The suspended main building consists of three circular shapes – hollow, carved and transparent according to the sequence of outside and inside spaces.
With this unique arrangement, the building constantly changes its shadow to the plaza as the sun rises and sets every day. Rizhao is a green and sustainable developing city and the museum proposal has been designed to conserve energy as well. The building adopts a hi-tech solar sunshield system in order to make the most use of green energy. The double surface layers allow the building to be naturally ventilated to curb energy use.
