It’s nice to know that apart from their regular curriculum, teachers are also spreading awareness about renewable energy among kids. One such person is Ben Vander Heiden, a sixth grade teacher at Woodbridge Elementary School in California. His recent creation is the solar-powered tricycle. He says the idea struck him while he was teaching, and thus the assembly process began.

The tricycle is the outcome of bike scraps and two solar panels donated by the Bay Area’s Solar Institute, which resulted in completion of project for just $500. This vehicle certainly is a practical solution to combatting rising fuel prices. The 3-wheeler also speeds up to 17mph with the assistance of a 600-watt motor, and when the batteries die out, you can always pedal your way. So it’s good for your body and constructive for the environment!
