Alternate sources of energy are being tapped into across the globe and the automobile industry has to be at the forefront of this revolution as they cannot rely solely on fossil fuel for too long now. That said, the best way to ensure that future generations are treading the green path is by taking this revolution to schools, colleges and universities across the globe. It is one thing to have people teach about green energy sources in classroom and a whole different experience when that turns to reality in the form of an all-electric car race.
The Green Power Challenge was one such event and the electric set of wheels that stole the show at the event was designed by a team of students from Raincliffe School. With the stage set for the contest at Croft Circuit, near Darlington, the team of pupils assisted by Teacher David Cotton saw their electric car go on a 20 mile run across the racing circuit before a heavy downpour played spoilsport.
Considering that this is an enterprise from school students, one must admit that an electric car that topped off at 32 mph sounds pretty impressive. And while there might be flaws and surely a great scope for improvement, there is no denying the enterprise and green intent behind the project. More than the car itself, it will be such promotion of eco-friendly alternates that will spread awareness and encourage more homes to turn green.
There is no doubt that inevitably all the crude oil sources on the planet will dry up one day and irrespective of whether that is sooner or later, one will have to start looking elsewhere pretty quickly so that we end over over-reliance on non-renewable sources of energy. That is not just to ensure our own survival, but also that of the planet by cutting down on carbon emissions. So well done to the guys behind the car and all the best for the next outing on tracks!
