Eco Factor: Wind farm in Suez to generate 200MW of renewable electric power.
Egypt’s New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) has signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi’s green energy company, Masdar, to develop a 200MW wind power plant for Egypt’s eastern coast near Suez. The project will increase Egypt’s total wind energy installed capacity to 630MW.
Egypt already has wind farms at Zafarana and Hurghada on its Red Sea coastline, which collectively generate up to 430MW of renewable electric power. The country aims to generate 12 percent of its power from wind farms out of a total goal of 20 percent from renewable energy sources by 2020.
