Ecological Fur: That should get PETA hot under its hood!

This really is something fascinating and quite honestly speaking; it offers another chance for people to go at it in regards to what is friendly for the planet and what is not. The planet could really use some clarity on few of these issues, but then maybe that is easier said than done. ‘Fur’ can never be ecological and eco-friendly according to vast majority who fight for animal rights and according to simple logic, no artificial fabric can be anywhere close to fur in terms of being a friend to the planet. So the war rages on, but you just relax and read on.

The cape, bolero and several other items by Japanese designer Chie Imai use real chinchilla and mink from fur farms. But the fabric parts of the clothing use recycled polyester from Japanese plastic and pharmaceutical maker Teijin Ltd. The designer calls the ‘Eco Fur and the fury about the name is already on and in full flow. The basic design of this fabric is to use traditional and natural fur with recycled clothing to make sure we reduce waste and to make completely degradable, yet long-lasting clothes line.

Imai is the latest fur designer to use synthetic materials with fur, despite complaints from animal rights activists that the term “ecological” is a ploy to distract people from the mistreatment and cruelty of animals in the fur industry. Now I do love animals and they are indeed mistreated a lot in many industries, but maybe the activists could give this a chance. This is just like eating meat or maybe wearing leather, but then this is surely not for survival. The argument is not obviously going to end. But this new fashion line will run out of clothes if you don’t buy them soon.

Imai’s ecological fur has a price ranging in price from 1.2 million yen (US$12,000; euro8, 000) for the mink bolero to the 8.4 million yen (US$83,000; euro52, 000) chinchilla cape. The client list of the designer includes the Japanese royal family and movie stars like Sarah Jessica Parker. So they soon might be on the next big awards function.
