Eco Factor: Hybrid yacht runs on diesel/electric propulsion system.

Just off the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, a start-up, Arcadia Yachts, is trying to green your weekend cruises with a new range of ecofriendly super-yachts that take both your style and the environment into consideration. The stunning masterpieces will be available in 75’ and 175’ versions with eco-conscious credentials as their USP.

The ecofriendly aesthetics will not make the yacht dull as the designers plan some of the most luxurious interiors crafted by well known Italian design houses such as B&B Italia and Schiffni. The yachts will carry double layered reflecting glass, creating a bright, open and a sunlit interior.

The company claims that the unique shape of the hull will lower the amount of propulsion needed, which will be handled by low power hybrid engines running on either low emission diesel or the solar panels, which the yacht is equipped with. The silent engine would ensure a speed of up to 8 knots, which can of course be enhanced with the diesel counterpart.

The Dark Side:

Undoubtedly hybrid engines do lower a vehicle’s or a yacht’s emissions, but doesn’t make it a completely clean deal. For a greener future designers have to look into ways to make these machines run on a completely zero-emission electric or fuel cell engines.
