Eco Factor: Photovoltaic plant capable of generating 75MW of green power.

We’ve seen solar plants capable of generating gigawatts of power being planned in different parts of the world. However, most of these plants don’t actually utilize sunlight for generating power, as they’re more focused on using heat. A team of private investors have announced plans to develop a more conventional solar power plant that will be capable of generating 75MW of power, outshining the current world record holder in Spain, which generates about 60MW.

The solar photovoltaic plant, dubbed Teenaway Solar Reserve, is set to become the largest plant in its category when it is constructed on 400 acres of formerly-logged private property four miles north of Cle Elum, in Kittitas County, Washington. Teenaway hasn’t secured any power purchase agreements till now, but considering the change in trends the developers are confident that finding buyers won’t be a tough ask.

Presently the developers are trying to figure out the technology that will be best-suited for the plant. Solar crystalline and thin film technologies are both being weighed for their benefits and drawbacks, but Teenaway is confident that the plant should be generating electricity to power 45,000 homes by 2011.
