Eco Factor: Concentrated Solar Plant to generate 17MW of renewable power.

Torresol Energy has received a $120m loan from the European Investment Bank to develop Gemasolar – a salt-based concentrated solar plant that is expected to generate about 17MW of renewable power.

The plant will utilize a breakthrough technology to store heat in the form of molten salt that will enable the plant to generate energy for 15 hours each day. The project will involve a central tower and 2600 heliostats to concentrate solar energy during the day.

Gemasolar is expected to produce about 100GWh of electricity each year, which will be exported to the grid in Villanueva del Ray, in the Spanish province of Andalusia.
