Eco Factor: Electrolyzer produces hydrogen and oxygen gas from water.
Dan Nocera, a professor at MIT, has thought of an all new approach to combat the energy crisis looming large on the global population. Instead of using expensive solar arrays or wind turbines, Nocera is attempting to power your home and your car with nothing more than a few liters of readily available water.
The technology comes with the development of an ultra-efficient electrolyzer that works at room temperature and efficiently produces hydrogen and oxygen gases from water using solar energy. The electrolyzer, which is actually a mix of cobalt and potassium phosphate, works along with a 6 X 5 meter photovoltaic array to generate enough hydrogen from just 5 liters of water to power your entire house and your fuel cell car for 500km.
The Dark Side:
The technology to generate hydrogen from water is nothing new. However, the claims made by Professor Dan Nocera do seem too much. However, if Nocera is to be believed, then the world could soon be powered by water.
