Eco Factor: Largest defense solar facility aims to double its output.

Initially planned as a 500MW solar thermal plant, the U.S. Army’s Fort Irwin power plant might end up double that size, generating an output of about 1GW. The plant is being developed by Clark Realty Capital and Acciona Solar Power.

The plant was already destined to be the largest renewable energy project in Defense Department history will beat its own destined record. The development will cover 21 square miles on the Mojave Desert and should take 13 years to complete and will be constructed at the cost of about $1.5 billion.
