Eco Tech: Burger King testing energy-harvesting speed bump

Eco Factor: Energy generating devices convert motion into electricity.

Speed bumps are usually placed in places where people want drivers to slow down their rides. New Energy Technologies is developing a system, which will make use of these bumps to generate electricity. The “Motion Power Energy Harvester”, as the system is being referred to captures the energy of a moving car and converts it into up to 2000W of instantaneous power.

The system is being tested at N.J. Burger King and will harvest energy that is usually wasted. The inventors believe that the system can be installed in places which normally see about 150,000 cars annually as that way the device will be able to pay back for itself in less than 2 years.
